Pam Rose Cott is a textiles artist and poet based in Cardiff. As a textiles artist she works mostly with quilting, embroidery, tapestry weaving and felting. As a writer & performer she has shared her guided meditations, poetry as well as short stories.
‘I was drawn to working with textiles & wool after learning more about its links to my family heritage in North Yorkshire. My Grandad was a wool merchant and ran a mill there after WW2 & my Great Grandmother was a weaver in Huddersfield. Alongside the culture particularly among women, of giving textiles objects as gifts and sharing their skills and knowledge of the craft among generations. Such as my own beloved Grandma Pam, who shares the same name as me.’
Pam Rose Cott has performed and exhibited work across the UK in major cities such as London, Manchester, Bristol and Cardiff, among others. As well as overseas in Iceland and China. Her textiles work and writing was recently featured in ROAM magazine.
Shrouding is an ancient practice that stretches back to the beginnings of recorded history. There has been resurgent interest in environmentally friendly burial practices and a more personal approach to end of life and after death care.
My hope is that the creation of a custom burial shroud or memory quilt for your loved one will provide a unique and personal celebration of life and memorial tribute.
Burial shrouds should be made with natural, bio-degradable fabrics and upcycled fabrics whenever possible. I encourage the use of heirloom textiles such as clothes, bedding, tablecloths etc for your bespoke shroud.
Whether you are making arrangements to care for a loved one after death, or simply being well prepared, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I can offer a free zoom consultation to discuss your wishes. Or send me an email using the contact form below.
A memory quilt is constructed from heirloom textiles such as clothes or any sentimental fabric. I can also integrate printed fabrics with scanned images of objects or family photographs. For example the quilt below is made using scans of flowers pressed from my mum's garden. I have also made quilts using scanned in covers of favourite books or poetry.
I was inspired to begin offering memory quilts after my own Grandfather’s struggle with Alzheimers, he passed away a couple of years ago and in the time since I have realised how special the gift of a memory quilt could be. However a memory quilt could be suitable for any occasion, such as baby matts or pillows, blankets or birthdays.
